SUMMARY:After animal extinctions on Mauritius\, the plants they used to eat
  are at risk too
DESCRIPTION:The talk will be in English.\n\nMost of the recent extinctions
have happened on islands\, making them the center of the biodiversity cris
is. The loss of animals that ate fruit and used to disperse the seeds of p
lants\, increases the chance that these plants will also go extinct. The I
ndian Ocean island Mauritius is famous for the extinction of the Dodo\, gi
ant tortoises\, skinks and many other animals that ate fruit\, yet it was
one of the last islands to be colonised by humans. With only 4% of the ori
ginal forest left\, that holds the second highest rate of plants threatene
d with extinction in the world\, the race is on to preserve and restore wh
at is left before the native Mauritian plants are "as dead as the Dodo".\n

ma og har arbejdet med foredragets emne i nogle år.\n\nAlle er velkomne.
